IEC 61000-2-2 is an international EMC standard and a part of the IEC 61000 series, titled " Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Part 2-2: Environment - Compatibility levels for low-frequency conducted disturbances and signalling in public low-voltage power supply systems".
It specifies compatibility levels for various electromagnetic disturbances (listed below) that may occur in public low-voltage power supply systems, with a nominal voltage up to 420 V, single-phase or 690 V, three-phase, and a nominal frequency of 50 Hz or 60 Hz. The disturbance phenomena considered are:
Note: The IEC TR 61000-2-1 technical report provides descriptions of most of these phenomena.
The IEC 61000-2-2 document also provides a general definition for various key terms, including non-intentional emission, mains communicating system (MCS), and an unsymmetrical voltage.
Role of Compatibility Levels:
Compatibility levels mean that reference levels for EMC coordination. They are used for:
The compatibility levels defined in this document apply at the point of common coupling. At the input terminals of the equipment receiving supply from the point of common coupling, the levels of the conducted electromagnetic disturbances are considered to be the same as the levels at the point of common coupling. However, in some cases, this may not always be the case, especially in the case of a long line supplying power to a particular installation or in the case of an electromagnetic disturbance that is generated or amplified within the installation in which the equipment forms a part.
Note: Other main basic EMC concepts and more information on compatibility levels are given in IEC TR 61000-1-1.
Frequency Range and Amendment Details:
The base publication of the IEC 61000-2-2 international standard, published in 2002, deals with conducted electromagnetic disturbances in the 0 kHz to 9 kHz frequency range, extending up to 148.5 kHz, particularly for mains signalling systems.
As of April 2025, Edition 2.2 of IEC 61000-2-2, published in 2018, addresses conducted electromagnetic phenomena (disturbances and signals from mains communication systems) within the 0 kHz to 150 kHz frequency range.
