What is MIL-STD-461?
The MIL-STD-461 is the United States Military Standard approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. The document of this standard establishes interface and associated verification requirements for the control of the electromagnetic interference (EMI) emission and susceptibility characteristics of electronic, electrical, and electromechanical equipment and subsystems designed or procured for use by activities and agencies of the DoD (Department of Defense). These electronic, electrical, and electromechanical equipment and subsystems may be used independently or as an integral part of other subsystems or systems.
The applicability of the stated emission and susceptibility requirements of this standard is dependent upon the types of equipment or subsystems and their intended installations as specified in the standard. This standard is best suitable for items that have the following features: electrical power input derived from prime power sources, electronic enclosures that are no larger than an equipment rack, and electrical interconnections that are discrete wiring harnesses between enclosures.
