Laird High-Performance Ferrite Sheets Block EMI in Compact GPU Designs
Laird’s white paper describes how a leading semiconductor manufacturer solved electromagnetic interference (EMI) challenges in compact AI GPU designs. Conducted emissions from switched-mode power supplies generated noise at 1.5 MHz and 3 MHz, causing EMC compliance failures through heatsink coupling. Traditional ferrite tiles were too bulky for space-constrained GPU layouts. Laird developed ultra-thin NiZn ferrite sheets, as thin as 0.05 mm, to suppress EMI while maintaining thermal performance. The customized solution offered temperature stability, fire retardancy, and easy integration into existing designs. Testing showed significant emission reduction, effective harmonic attenuation, minimal thermal impact, and successful EMC compliance.
