The SUMMA Foundation and Yonsei University will partner as co-hosts of the in-person GlobalEM 2026 Symposium, to be held June 29 to July 3 in Seoul at Yonsei University. Organized by the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science and the SUMMA Foundation, the symposium is co-organized by BK21 Global Education and Research Center for Convergence Technology.

“It is our great pleasure to welcome you to GlobalEM 2026 in Seoul,” said GlobalEM 2026 General Chair Professor Jong-Gwan Yook of Yonsei University. “This year’s Symposium will feature Keynote Speeches, Plenary Sessions, Workshops, Tutorials, Oral and Poster Technical Sessions, Technic, and Technical Tours. GlobalEM 2026 will include more than 140 Technical Paper Presentations, together with outstanding Invited Talks by distinguished speakers from around the world.”

The five-day technical program is being led by Carlos Romero, Technical Program Committee (TPC) Chair with armasuisse (Switzerland), and Jong-Hwa Kwon, TPC Co-Chair with ETRI (Republic of Korea). TPC Vice-Chairs Richard Hoad with QinetiQ (United Kingdom) and Hyun Ho Park with the University of Suwon (Republic of Korea) assisted in planning the program. Technical tours are scheduled for July 3, the final day of the event.

The program covers topics including:

  • High-power microwave (HPM) sources and effects
  • Electromagnetic pulse (EMP) and intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI)
  • Protection and hardening technologies
  • EM modeling, measurement, and standards
  • EM environment and effects on systems
  • Applications in defense, communications, and critical infrastructure

The symposium welcome reception will be held on June 29, while the gala banquet is scheduled for July 1. During the banquet, awards will be presented for new HPEM Fellows, Baum Medals, the Best Student Paper Award, and the Young Scientist Award.

ETS-Lindgren Customer Relations Manager and GlobalEM 2026 International Relations Chair Janet O’Neil said, “We participate in many industry conferences each year and value the unique program presented at the GlobalEM Symposium. It’s a small and very targeted group of global experts on HPEM topics. The high-quality papers on new research in this area are always enlightening, and with the focused, dedicated audience, you can have meaningful, in-depth discussions with the authors and the exhibitors. I am very excited to learn what’s new in the important area of HPEM at the Symposium.”

ETS-Lindgren, a host company of GlobalEM 2024 in Austin, Texas, is serving as a Gold Sponsor of GlobalEM 2026 and will support the symposium lanyards and technical tour. The company will also participate in the exhibition from June 30 through July 2.

On the technical program, ETS-Lindgren personnel will participate in workshop and technical paper sessions. Sergio Longoria, Technical Product Line Manager with ETS-Lindgren, is a member of the GlobalEM Technical Program Committee and a speaker in the workshop “EMP, HEMP, and IEMI Threats — Theory, Mitigation, and Standards,” chaired by Janet O’Neil. Longoria will present “Theory Behind EMP/HEMP/IEMI: Causes, Effects, and History.”

Other workshop speakers include Sanjay Singh of ETS-Lindgren India, Tobias Okech of MPE, Yuichi Hayashi of the Nara Institute of Science and Technology, and Tae-Heon Jang of I-Spec.

On Wednesday, July 1, from 08:30 to 08:50, in Room B147, Mr. Longoria will present the paper “Analysis of Common-Mode vs. Differential-Mode Three-Phase Power Filters for HEMP Mitigation” in Wed1-3 TC5: System Level Protection and Testing. On Thursday, July 2, from 16:00 to 17:40, Mr. Longoria will co-chair Th3-1 SS04/TC2: Electromagnetic Reduction Technologies and Related Topics with Jung-Hoon Han with Korea Aerospace University (Korea). Speakers in the session include Jae Sang Yoon, et al., with Korea Automotive Technology Institute (Korea); Cheolsoo Kim, et al., with EMCIS (Korea); Seongmin Park, et al., with Chungnam National University (Korea) as well as Namyoung Oh and Cheol-Jin Park with Hyundai Motor Company (Korea); and Jeong-Woo Park, et al., with Korea Aerospace University (Korea); Hee Jung Lee, et al., with Agency for Defense Development (Korea), as well as Dong-Joon Lee with Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (Korea).

The symposium will conclude on July 3 with technical tours of HCT Co., Ltd. (Hyundai Calibration & Certification Technologies) and the South Korea National Radio Research Agency’s Communication Conformity Assessment Center.

According to the organizers, the tours will provide participants with insights into electromagnetic testing capabilities, compliance assessment infrastructure, and industrial applications relevant to the global HPEM community. As technical tour sponsor, ETS-Lindgren will provide transportation and lunch for attendees and will deliver a technical presentation during the tour.
