UL Solutions Breaks Ground on EMC and Wireless Testing Laboratory in Germany712370

UL Solutions plans to expand EMC and wireless testing capacity in Europe with construction of a new laboratory in Neu-Isenburg, Germany, supporting safety certification and regulatory compliance for large, high-power and connected products. The Neu-Isenburg facility is projected to be operational in mid-2027, and it will offer wireless testing services across Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, GPS and RFID for sectors including industrial, medical and automotive applications. The facility will support manufacturers developing large, high-power and connected products requiring EMC, wireless and regulatory compliance testing.

As connected technologies increase in scale and complexity, demand for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and wireless testing continues to rise across Europe. The company's new laboratory will support larger, more complex and connected products. The facility will be located on UL Solutions’ existing Neu-Isenburg campus near Frankfurt.

The company announced that it has broken ground for the new EMC and wireless testing laboratory in Germany. According to UL Solutions, the facility will expand regional testing capacity for large, high-power and connected products supporting European and global manufacturers.

Products and systems are becoming increasingly connected, software-enabled and data-driven, increasing the complexity of regulatory requirements. The company noted that manufacturers require testing expertise close to product development and manufacturing locations to support compliance and product qualification processes.

The facility is intended to support manufacturers across industrial automation, medical technology, energy systems, telecommunications and automotive sectors, particularly for large and complex systems requiring EMC and wireless testing.

According to the company, the laboratory will provide large-scale EMC testing and wireless testing across Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, GPS and radio frequency identification (RFID). The facility will include a 10-meter chamber for testing heavy, high-power equipment, supporting equipment up to 4 meters in length and weighing up to 5 tons, with power capabilities up to 200 amps per phase.

UL Solutions’ facility will support testing closer to customer R&D and manufacturing operations, helping companies manage compliance activities and product development processes for global markets.

The facility is designed to support applications including energy systems, digital infrastructure and AI-enabled technologies. The laboratory footprint is intended to support future expansion as regulations and testing requirements evolve.

The investment expands its testing and certification infrastructure in Germany and Europe while adding to its EMC and wireless testing network across Europe, Asia, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The building is designed with rooftop solar systems, building controls and water management systems, and is intended to meet German energy-efficiency standards.
