Industrial Inspection and Analysis (IIA) provides SAR testing services as part of its broader electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and wireless compliance offerings, supporting manufacturers seeking access to global markets.

Regulatory authorities worldwide continue to enforce radio frequency (RF) exposure limits to ensure consumer safety as the use of wireless devices expands. Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing plays a central role in this regulatory framework by verifying that RF-emitting devices operate within established exposure limits before they are introduced to the market.

SAR testing measures the rate at which RF energy is absorbed by human tissue when a wireless device is used near the body or head. Devices with RF radiating elements positioned within 20 centimeters of the user typically require SAR evaluation, unless they qualify for exemptions based on low output power or other regulatory conditions. The results are used by regulators to confirm that consumer exposure remains within acceptable limits defined by international safety guidelines.

SAR Testing Infrastructure and Frequency Coverage

IIA conducts SAR testing using the DASY8 system, SPEAG’s latest-generation SAR measurement platform. This system enables compliance testing for localized and whole-body SAR limits across a frequency range from 4 MHz to 10 GHz, supporting a wide variety of wireless products, including consumer electronics and industrial RF devices.

Testing is performed at IIA’s EMC laboratory in Florida, which supports both domestic and international regulatory requirements.

IIA’s EMC lab has recently received multiple product approvals from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) related to RF exposure and nerve stimulation compliance. These approvals are based on newly implemented curve-fitting techniques aligned with RSS-102.NS.MEAS and SPR-002 Issue 2 requirements.

IIA is among a limited number of laboratories globally approved to apply the methodologies described in Notice 2024-DRS0004, supporting measurement-based assessments of internal electric and magnetic fields in the 3 kHz to 10 MHz frequency range.

Experience and Regulatory Scope

With nearly five decades of experience in wireless and EMC testing, IIA supports manufacturers navigating complex RF exposure and certification requirements. Its SAR testing services are positioned to provide technically accurate measurement data, regulatory documentation, and test results aligned with current international standards—helping manufacturers demonstrate compliance without unnecessary delays.

Through continued investment in test systems and evolving measurement techniques, Industrial Inspection and Analysis maintains its role in RF safety and SAR compliance testing for wireless devices entering regulated markets.
