BICON Laboratories' Radiation Lab Provides EMC Testing for Automotive, Aerospace and Military Applications

BICON Laboratories, a provider of EMC, RF, environmental, electrical safety, and compliance testing services through specialized laboratory facilities supporting industrial, automotive, aerospace, military, and commercial applications, has a Radiation Lab facility that supports radiated emission, immunity, calibration, and other compliance measurement requirements.

BICON Laboratories' Radiation Lab includes an Open Area Testsite (OATS), full and semi-anechoic chambers, a reverberation chamber, and radiated immunity systems designed for a wide range of testing applications.

Open Area Testsite (OATS)

The lab’s Open Area Testsite (OATS), located near the BICON building, is used for radiated emission testing, research, reference measurements, and calibration activities. The site supports broadband antenna calibration at distances of 1, 3, and 10 meters up to 63.5 meters and can measure radiated emissions from large test equipment. Power supply systems are available directly at the test site.

Anechoic and Semi-Anechoic Testing Facilities

BICON Laboratories also operates full and semi-anechoic chambers for radiated measurements. These facilities accommodate equipment up to 4 by 4 meters and include camera monitoring systems for observing equipment performance during testing. The chambers use broadband antennas and amplifier combinations to achieve high field strength levels, while measurement receivers from Rohde & Schwarz enable detection of very low radiation levels.

Semi-Anechoic Chamber 03

Semi-anechoic Chamber 03 is designed for automotive applications and can accommodate both equipment and complete vehicles. The chamber floor supports loads of up to 40 tons and functions as a full-size 10-meter test site for controlled emission measurements in accordance with standards including EN55011, EN55022, and military specifications.

Anechoic Chamber 04

Anechoic Chamber 04 serves as the lab’s primary facility for certified radiated testing and measurements. The chamber supports equipment that can pass through a 1.88 x 0.85 meter doorway and includes secondary systems such as compressed air, water, automated video surveillance, and drawn current fingerprinting. The facility supports CE, military, and aerospace applications.

Anechoic Chamber 06

Anechoic Chamber 05 mirrors the configuration of Chamber 04 and is used for radiated emission and susceptibility measurements. The facility also supports military, automotive, and aerospace testing programs.

Anechoic Chamber 06

Anechoic Chamber 06 is currently under construction and is intended for military, automotive, and aerospace applications.

Reverberation Chamber

In addition, BICON Laboratories' Radiation Lab offers a reverberation chamber for ultra-high-frequency testing between 18 GHz and 40 GHz. The chamber is designed for military and automotive wire harness testing and incorporates a mode-stirred environment with a specialized stirring blade to create statistically stable and homogeneous electromagnetic fields.

Radiated Immunity Testing

The company also operates a 200 V/m radiated immunity system covering frequencies from 1 GHz to 18 GHz, with additional information on the operational system to be released separately.
