Conducted immunity testing is used to evaluate the resilience of electronic devices when exposed to RF interference that propagates through cables and conductive interfaces. Power lines, communication cables, and control wiring can act as pathways for electromagnetic disturbances, potentially affecting system performance. This testing ensures that equipment continues to function correctly when subjected to such conducted electromagnetic interference.

During the test, controlled RF signals are injected onto the cables connected to the device under test (DUT) to simulate disturbances that may occur in real operating environments. Test engineers use equipment such as coupling/decoupling networks (CDNs), EM clamps, and bulk current injection (BCI) probes together with RF signal generators and power amplifiers to introduce interference across a specified frequency range.

Conducted RF immunity testing is commonly performed according to IEC 61000-4-6, which defines standardized procedures for evaluating immunity to RF disturbances conducted along cables. Depending on the application, additional requirements may be specified by standards such as CISPR 35, the IEC 61000-6 series for industrial environments, EN 50121 for railway systems, and MIL-STD-461 for military equipment.

These tests are carried out using calibrated EMC test setups that allow engineers to control disturbance levels and monitor device performance under electromagnetic stress. Conducted immunity testing helps manufacturers identify susceptibility issues, improve system robustness, and ensure compliance with EMC regulations before products are deployed in real-world environments.
