KC certification is required for electronic and wireless products entering the South Korean market to demonstrate compliance with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and radio frequency (RF) regulatory requirements. The certification is administered by the National Radio Research Agency (RRA) and applies to both unintentional radiators and intentional transmitters.
The compliance process involves EMC testing for radiated and conducted emissions and immunity, along with RF testing for wireless devices to evaluate parameters such as output power, frequency stability, occupied bandwidth, and spurious emissions. Testing is conducted in accordance with Korean standards (KN standards), which are largely aligned with international standards such as CISPR, IEC, and ETSI.
Products are subject to different approval procedures, including Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (SDoC), Registration, and Certification, depending on the product type and risk category. Testing must be performed at RRA-recognized laboratories, and certification may require submission of technical documentation and test reports.
KC certification ensures that products meet Korean regulatory limits for EMC and RF performance, prevent interference with communication systems, and enable legal market access in South Korea.
