Radiated immunity testing is performed to determine how electronic equipment responds when exposed to electromagnetic fields that propagate through the air. Many electronic devices operate in environments where RF signals from wireless communications, broadcast transmitters, radar systems, and other electronic equipment are present. Radiated immunity testing ensures that the device under test (DUT) continues to function as intended without performance degradation when subjected to these electromagnetic fields.

During testing, controlled RF signals are generated and transmitted toward the DUT using calibrated broadband antennas and high-power RF amplifiers. The device is exposed to electromagnetic fields across a specified frequency range while its operational performance is continuously monitored. The test is typically conducted in semi-anechoic chambers or fully anechoic chambers, which provide controlled electromagnetic environments for accurate field generation and measurement.

Radiated immunity testing is commonly performed according to standards such as IEC 61000-4-3, which defines test methods for evaluating immunity to radiated RF electromagnetic fields. Additional product standards such as CISPR 35, the IEC 61000-6 series, EN 50121 for railway equipment, and MIL-STD-461 for military systems may also specify radiated immunity requirements depending on the application.
