Conducted emissions testing is a fundamental part of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) compliance, used to measure the unwanted electromagnetic energy generated by electronic devices that is transmitted through power lines, signal cables, or other conductive interfaces. Excessive conducted emissions can disrupt the operation of nearby electronic equipment and communication systems, making compliance testing essential for commercial, industrial, automotive, and military electronic products. 

During conducted emissions testing, the voltage or current generated by a device under test (DUT) on its power or signal lines is measured across a defined frequency range using specialized instrumentation. The test setup typically includes Line Impedance Stabilization Networks (LISNs), EMI receivers or spectrum analyzers, and transient limiters that allow engineers to accurately measure conducted noise while maintaining a controlled impedance environment. 

Conducted emissions testing is performed according to internationally recognized EMC standards such as CISPR 11, CISPR 14, CISPR 22 / CISPR 32, and FCC Part 15 for commercial and information technology equipment. Automotive electronics are commonly tested according to CISPR 25, while military equipment may require compliance with MIL-STD-461. These standards define measurement methods, frequency ranges, and emission limits to ensure electromagnetic compatibility with other electronic systems. 

Testing is typically conducted in shielded EMC test rooms or absorber-lined shielded enclosures (ALSE) to minimize external interference and ensure accurate measurements. Conducted emissions testing helps manufacturers identify noise sources early in the design process, implement effective filtering or shielding techniques, and ensure their products meet regulatory EMC requirements before entering the market.
